Reading Standards for Literature:
RL 1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences.
RL 3: Analyze the impact of the author's choices regarding how to develop and relate elements of a story or drama.
RL 5: Analyze how an author's choices concerning how to structure specific parts of a text contribute to overall meaning.
Reading Standards for Informational Text:
RI 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text.
RI 7: Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or formats.
Writing Standards:
W 1: Use words, phrases, and clauses as well as varied syntax to link major sections of text.
W 7: Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects to answer a question or solve a problem under investigation.
Speaking and Listening Standards:
SL 1: Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions.
SL 1.c: Propel conversations by posing and responding to questions that probe reasoning and evidence.
SL 2: Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media to make decisions/solve problems.

L 1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

Unit Goals
- Students will read, analyze, and comprehend what is considered to be a classic work of British Literature.
- Students will learn about one of the most renowned authors and play writes, William Shakespeare, and one of his great tragic plays, Macbeth.
- Students will be able to take their understanding and interpretations of a classical literary work and apply it critically to their modern day lives and cross-curricular educational basis.
